The Jeeps dropped us off at this river. There was a fast current and a lot of water. This was our first task of the trip and made me wonder what was to come. Luckily this was the most dangerous river we has to deal with.

This is the typical construction of the native indians buildings. The walls are made of a stick lattice packed with mud. This roof is sheet metal. The more typical roofs were made of grass.

The welcome sign at the Village of Paraitepuy. This is the usual starting point when the bridge is intact. Our packs were weighed here. Many decided they were carrying too much so, Marcus ( an indian living in the village ) was hired to join us to help carry the load.

The mountains were covered by the clouds most of the two day hike to the base of the mountain. This was a rare view of The Kukenan. I couldn't decide which photo I liked best so I included both.

With the late start because of the river crossing and our slow pace, we arrived at the Tec River ( our first camp location ) after dark. We set up the tent in the dark and in the rain. We were exhausted. We were too tired to fix dinner and went to sleep without it. Sorry, no photos.
